Lifeguarding Requirements?

I was just wondering what the lifeguarding requirements are in the United States. Does anyone know what they are? At the pool I am training at they require:

You must be 16 years of age
Have current Bronze Cross, CPR-C, AED, and AEC
Be able to swim 700metres in the waves (there is a large wave pool) in under 14 minutes
Retrieve a 20 pound brick from a depth of 10 feet.
Tread water holding a 20 pound brick for 5 minutes continuously
Demonstrate proper spinal rollovers, immobilizations, and boarding (deep and shallow water)
Approaches, carries, removals.
First Aid and CPR
Complete a fitness test (just running laps and doing pushups and stuff)

By the way I live in Canada. Would this be similar to what it would be like in the United States?

It all depends on where you want to lifeguard. If you want to lifeguard at a community pool the requirements aren't as difficult as the ones you just named. Look online for lifeguard training classes in the area you want to lifeguard in and they will have a list of requirements!
