Carbon Filter Replacement Waterwise Item #8606
Carbon Filter Replacement Item #8601 Item #8606
OEM Product Bulletin
Since 1995, we’ve been the Original Manufacturer (OEM) of carbon filter bags used in home and office water distillation appliances. We’ve supplied these carbon bags throughout the world and sometimes they are referred to as carbon “sachets.”
The carbon tea bag fits into the lid of the carafe next to the boiling pot of the water distillation appliance sold under several brand names such as Waterwise®, Sears® Kenmore®, Ecowater® (See Disclaimer Page) under part numbers ranging from Item# 8601, WWI 8500, WWI 8800, EWS-US 500, EWS-US 800, EWS-US 500/120, EWS-US 800/120, EWS-EU 500/230, EWS-EU 800/230, EWS-T500/120, EWS-T800/120, 34484 and 75282.
The BONUS PACK!Waterwise #8606
Over the past decade and a half, we’ve manufactured hundreds of thousands of filters without a single complaint. We use a proprietary filter paper that wicks and distributes Passive* distillate (steam distilled water) through water washed activated coconut based carbon.
Some water distiller companies are switching to carbon blocks instead of our unique product…here’s the story about carbon block products:
Carbon Block Filters Are Great If:
Waterwise Item #8606 Bonus Pack
They are used in Passive* applications where the water to be filtered cannot flow anywhere but through the block; you may be familiar with pitcher type products or the larger countertop stainless steel containers having carbon cartridges or ceramic “candles” inside the upper half of the stainless steel unit—most work quite well when you do not have access to a water distiller. Doulton and British “Berkey” Berkefeld are two manufacturers. Because of the eight pounds or so of water dripping through the carbon block, and because of the vessel’s holding and containment feature, the gallon or so of water has no where else to go but with gravity and gently press through the carbon block structure, passively.
The little carafe tray that holds our filter is not a substitution for a gallon container.
Also, carbon block filters are used in those units that are mounted on faucets or stand alone under the sink where water pressure actively pushes the water through the carbon block. The pressurized water follows the path of least resistance and water molecules experience contact with the carbon block in a fraction of a second; dissolved minerals pass right through…and what else? We personally do not recommend these units.
Carbon block filters in the lid pocket of a carafe’s cover of a home distillation appliance? Will the fresh distilled water either roll off the block and/or drip through a point of least resistance? Is this an alternative to our filter? What binders are used in that block any way to hold it together?
We use proprietary filter paper and the best water washed activated coconut based activated carbon available exceeding today’s protocol. The filter achieves overall saturation of the 100% loose filled activated carbon.
We have many years experience in distributing relatively low volumes of Passive* flows of distillate over large areas.
Please contact us for any additional information or your comments. If our filters become unavailable we will be happy to supply them very reasonably to distributors and consumers directly starting Spring 2011.
Do I really need carbon in my filter bag?
You go G.
No your tank does't need the carbon. As G mentioned, carbon is good for removing certain inorganic and organics from the water, however it also removes many other trace minerals and salts. Carbon cannot distinguise between the good stuff and the bad stuff. If you are using a quality dechlor/water conditioner and take care of your tank, it really isn't needed. The larger benefit of the FILTER is actually the pad that will catch the food particles to help keep the tank cleaner longer. this is why different manufacturers of carbon filters tell you different things as to when to change the filter. Knowing the carbon filter will more than likely become saturated within a week to two weeks, the purpose of the filter is to clean the excess food and debris from the water. Many people just rinse out the pad and replace in the filter.
However nothing that a routine maintenance schedule could not also clear up.
To corectly use carbon, you would have to assess the amount of waste produced, chemicals (which few over the counter fresh water kits test for) water flow for each tank and determine if your carbon is saturated within two days or 8 days. This is another one of those myths which makes it easier for novice fish keepers to follow when starting out and manufacturers to sell product. Have you ever noticed your entire filter pad is not full of carbon? While it is sitting upright, only 1/4 of the water flow actually comes in contact with the carbon. Generally, because it doesn't really matter.
Salt water tanks do not use carbon due to the fact after one run of the aquarium, the carbon would be useless and so saturated with minerals and salt it would be totally useless.
P.S. Brita does remove the chlories from the water.
Blue Yodel #11 – Dear Santa (thebluegrassblog)
Dear Santa, Before we get to this year’s list, I’d like to clean up a couple
of loose ends from 2010. Last year you left me the wrong Homer & Jethro LP. I
requested Cool Crazy Christmas; I got Old Crusty Minstrels. Normally, I
wouldn’t [...]
